Day Two

Ok, so we've taken a look at our web-quest.  This means that you should have been exposed to some of the topics in the book and you may have even learned a little bit about the author.  Today we are going to collect information so we can create a brochure.  The brochure will be designed to try to get migrant workers to WANT to come and work as a ranch hand at your ranch.  You will create your own fictional ranch.  Again, the brochure should persuade workers to work at your ranch.  The style and organization of your brochure is completely up to you, feel free to use a template of your choice.  There are, however, some requirements for your brochure.  Your brochure must include:

  • A title or name for your ranch
  • A list of common jobs on the ranch with descriptions (field hand, skinner, jerk-line skinner, swamper, stable hand, bucker, etc...)
  • A map of where your ranch is located (location must be similar to that in the novel)
  • Contact information (remember there is no email in the 1930s)
  • Grammar and mechanics need to be correct
  • The information must be presented in a clear and organized way
  • The brochure needs to be visually appealing, use pictures, looks count!
The following links can help you collect information:

Below is an example (I purposely left out requirements to discourage copying).

You will be graded using the below rubric.

Again, you have all of today to work on it but tomorrow we move on to a new activity.  The final product will be submitted this friday before your presentation.
